Seeking Candidates for the Allen SWCD Board of Supervisors
The Allen SWCD is seeking
candidates for the District Board of Supervisors election. The election will be
held Thursday, September 8, 2011, as part of the District’s annual meeting.
District board members are elected by Allen County residents to represent them
in guiding the district staff and cooperating agencies in positive efforts to
promote conservation programs and best management practices.
Members of the board are
public officials responsible to the people of the district and state. They
employ and guide staff of the District on workload priorities, manage district
funds and are a source of feedback from the public on its needs for soil and
water assistance.
Board members are expected
to attend monthly meetings where conservation policy is discussed and business
is conducted. They are highly encouraged to attend meetings that are geared
towards new and upcoming conservation and education programs, local field days,
conservation tours, local planning meetings and area and state meeting that are
held throughout the year. Special meetings are called from time to time to
discuss the district budget, petition ditch projects and employee evaluations.
There are a total of five
elected board members each serving a three-year term. At some conservation tours
and area meetings, supervisors have the opportunity to meet with State and U. S.
Representatives to discuss conservation issues and concerns. District
supervisors serve without pay.
